Singer-songwriter, Stephanie Quayle, released her heartbreaking autobiographical album, On The Edge, in 2022. Since its release, she has connected with fans of all ages on overcoming trauma and doing soul-searching work to find the light on the other side of it. Today, Quayle has released her latest single, “Why Do We Stay?” available now. The thought-provoking song, written by Quayle and produced by Lukas Bracewell, is a reflective and triumphant track that calls on us to examine the self-sacrifices we often make while blindly holding onto relationships that hide the pitfalls we choose to ignore.

“Why Do We Stay?” will be featured on Quayle’s upcoming deluxe edition of her 2022 album, On The Edge: Forgiven, out on May 10th. In addition to her latest single, the album will include all of the original tracks from On The Edge, along with alternate acoustic versions of each song (original and acoustic tracks produced by Paul Moak).

PRE-SAVE: On The Edge: Forgiven

On The Edge: Forgiven is the culmination of where I started a few years ago, sharing my stranger than fiction story. It’s the full creative process shared directly and fully with the fans – from the original work tapes to the acoustic versions of the album to a brand-new song that articulates what I’ve learned about myself through this healing process. This is the final page of this chapter of my journey, just as a new chapter as debut author begins.

The newest song on the album shares its name with my new book, “Why Do We Stay?”. That song in particular is one of hope, understanding, empathy and closure. I wrote it with that intent. I am proof that all of those things are possible. There is a lot of shame and judgment that comes with staying in an unhealthy relationship. I want my story to create more space for others to be able to voice where they are and know they are not only not alone but also that there are tremendous resources to get the support they need, in whatever part of the story they are in. My hope is that the book creates a global, fearless discussion and that the song will support that tool, in order to get more tools and guides to as many people as we can.

How we stop toxic relationships from destroying us is by getting stronger every day and utilizing the many resources available. I want to continue to serve people through my music, my book, my living example, and as many other ways as I can. Music touches us in a way the ink on the pages can’t and vice versa. And great storytelling is the easiest way to change hearts and minds for the greater good.
-Stephanie Quayle

Earlier this week, Quayle released her debut book (via Harper Celebrate) also titled, Why Do We Stay? – which explores the anatomy of a toxic relationship, from the blissful highs to the soul-shattering lows. Interwoven into Stephanie’s poignant retelling of events are helpful, research-backed, insights from renowned Social Psychologist, W. Keith Campbell, PhD, a nationally-recognized expert on narcissism, personality, and cultural change, who introduces readers to psychological terms and strategies to help them navigate their own life journey through love, loss, and everything in between.
